And the American screen and stage comic, Gene Wilder, has died. Wilder was nominated for an Oscar for his first starring role as the neurotic accountant in the Mel Brooks film, The Producers. A stream of brilliant comic performances followed — he played the washed-up gunslinger in Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and the title role in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Gene wilder was 83.
